Attend the Next Meeting Our next meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at 7:00 pm in the parking lot of Lamppost Pizza, 2955 Rolling Hills Rd., Torrance 90505. This is the day after Memorial day, and the annual general meeting and party. When we have a quorum present, we will have a short meeting, vote for the Board positions that are open (see below), and then move inside for pizza and beverages courtesy of SSBRA (Members only please). Bring a chair if you want to for the meeting. Please arrive on time, as the meeting will start as close to 7 PM as possible as soon as a quorum is present. The Board positions to be voted on are: Vice-President. Nominees: Michael Hinz and Ed Beverly (incumbent Ralph Quiroz declined to run for re-election, but has now informed us that he has had a change of heart and will be seeking nomination after all). Treasurer. Nominee: Steve Brandon (incumbent). Secretary. Nominee: none (the incumbent, Chris Nevil, is seeking nomination for Member at Large and has withdrawn as a nominee for Secretary). This position is up for election due to the earlier resignation of the elected secretary, Bruce Anderson. Member-at-Large. Nominee: none (the incumbent, Vince Delmonico, has resigned. Veto Galati is seeking nomination for Secretary and has withdrawn as a nominee for Member at Large). Please note that nominations can also be made just before the elections for these offices at the AGM. Since no bylaw amendments were offered at the April meeting, none will be voted on at the AGM. The Board has voted to increase the yearly dues from $65 to $75. This goes into effect immediately for new Members, and will go into effect for renewing Members for the 2013-2014 renewal cycle. The following meeting will be held on Tuesday, June 25, 2013 at 7:30 pm in the North Torrance High School library, located at 3620 W 182nd St, Torrance, CA 90504, between Prairie Ave. and Crenshaw Blvd. at Yukon Ave. The library is on the north, 182nd St., side of campus, and the entrance is on the south side of the building. See the school map for more. The school does not allow food or drink in the library. Arrive early as we begin promptly and the room often fills up. Of course all of our meetings are open to the general public, and we encourage everyone to attend in order to hear about the latest happenings, receive training and enjoy the company of your fellow Association Member referees. SBPSL Player Update - if the game is a forfeit and the players present with valid SBPSL ID's they may, with everyone's consent, mix players to form up teams and play a scrimmage game. This is a sanctioned SBPSL event that SSBRA referees can officiate, after collecting the usual game fees, and with the usual SSBRA insurance in effect - if the game is not a forfeit, but one team is short-handed, the players present with valid SBPSL ID's can, with everyone's consent, mix players to form up teams and play the game. This is a sanctioned SBPSL event that SSBRA referees can officiate, after collecting the usual game fees, and with the usual SSBRA insurance in effect. This is based on our receipt of a SBPSL directive that such games, where registered SBPSL players play for a team other than their own in these two limited cases, are sanctioned SBPSL games/events and all rules and coverage should apply. Per this directive from Andy Strasner, players may NOT switch sides once the match has begun. If there is a sendoff to one of the players, be sure to report it to THE TEAM TO WHICH HE IS REGISTERED. MOVED? CHANGED CONTACT INFO (PHONES/EMAIL)? If you have recently moved or changed contact information, be sure to update SSBRA’s member roster with your new information by selecting the Member Login (available at the top of each page). Also, send an email with your new mailing address to SSBRA’s Treasurer, Steve Brandon, which will prevent any check mailing delays. New SSBRA Apparel Manny Fineberg has developed a line of warmups just for SSBRA members. (These are NOT required). See the stuff here.
Message from the Board Welcome to SSBRA.org, Soccer South Bay Referee Association's online resource center. Our Association is made up of approximately 220 USSF certified referees living in and around the southwest portion of Los Angeles County, California. The Association will assign more than 1500 youth matches for Coast Soccer League and Development Soccer League during the 2013 season, all of the matches played by the Los Angeles J-League, an amateur men's league, a number of South Bay Peninsula Soccer League matches, Manhattan Beach 7 v 7 matches, Beverly Hills 7v7 matches, City of Lawndale youth matches, State Cup and National Cup matches organized by CYSA-S, and numerous tournaments held throughout Southern California. All of this totals to about 5,000 matches a year covered by SSBRA. We meet regularly in a collegial setting to discuss soccer refereeing issues, receive training and to conduct the business of the organization. Our meetings often feature guest speakers including past and present FIFA referees. You can read our current Association newsletter (a pdf) by clicking here. We are proud of the services we perform for the community. In addition to paid services, our membership gets involved in volunteer work. If you are a soccer referee and would like to join our dedicated group, we invite you to submit an application and/or meet us as a guest at our next meeting. Our Board of Directors will act quickly to consider your application. After approval you can expect to start receiving assignments in short order. If you represent a group that is looking for well-qualified, professional referees to serve your league or tournament, please contact our president directly. Thank you for visiting. We hope you come back again soon, and if there is something more you would like to see on this site, please drop our President a line. Board of Directors |
